Live music venue Rams Head Live! hosted its final shows this month at Power Plant Live! and is now closed. It was first reported in September that the venue would be closing after finishing out its slate of scheduled concerts.

From Baltimore Business Journal on September 26th:

The Cordish Cos., which owns the Power Plant Live entertainment complex that includes Rams Head, issued a statement saying the owners of Rams Head Live notified them it was leaving the space. But Cordish also said the concert hall will live on as “a major part of the Baltimore music scene for years to come.”

“The venue will temporarily close while it undergoes enhancements and will continue to be an exciting home for live music, festivals, events, and parties in downtown Baltimore when it reopens,” the statement said.

In recent years, Rams Head Live! was was owned by AEG Presents.

The other Rams Head restaurants and venues are owned by Rams Head Group and Rams Head Presents. Rams Head started in Downtown Annapolis and has several other locations in Anne Arundel County and one on the Eastern Shore.

Rams Head Group and Rams Head Presents issued the following statement upon hearing of the closing of Rams Head Live!:

Rams Head Group and Rams Head Presents are saddened to learn of the potential closing of Rams Head Live!, currently owned by AEG Presents. After yearlong construction Rams Head Presents opened Rams Head Live! in December 2004. During its 10+ years of operation, Rams Head welcomed over 1 million concertgoers and showcased hundreds of the nation’s top music acts. Rams Head Presents sold the venue to LA-based company AEG in August 2015. The venue retained the name due to Rams Head’s presence in the industry and brand recognition throughout Maryland and the surrounding region.

“We are proud to have built Rams Head Live! from the ground up and to have been a key part in developing the music scene in Downtown Baltimore and the Power Plant Live! district.” said Kyle Muehlhauser, Rams Head Presents and Rams Head Group owner. “We’re hopeful the facility will remain a music venue and the Baltimore music scene will continue to thrive”.

Rams Head Presents currently owns and operates Rams Head On Stage which opened in 1997. On Stage is a thriving 300 seat capacity venue in Annapolis, MD presenting over 350 shows per year. Rams Head provides programming for Maryland Hall in Annapolis, Maryland and Key West Theater and The Key West Amphitheater in Key West, Florida. Rams Head Presents purchased the Key West Songwriters Festival in 2021 and presented the inaugural Annapolis Songwriters Festival in September 2022. The festival successfully returned in 2023 and once again in 2024. Rams Head Presents also provides programming for Beston Hall in Rochester, New York and Point of the Bluff Vineyards in Hammondsport, New York. Rams Head Group is a family owned and operated restaurant company since 1989. Rams Head Group currently owns and operates four restaurant locations in Maryland: Rams Head Tavern in Annapolis, MD; Rams Head Roadhouse in Crownsville, MD; Rams Head Shore House in Stevensville, MD; Rams Head Dockside in Glen Burnie, MD and a fifth location in Florida: Rams Head Southernmost in Key West, FL.

The closure of Rams Head Live! leaves a gap in the live music scene in Baltimore. A music venue called The Ostend (previously Paramount Baltimore) started construction across the street from M&T Bank Stadium, but construction has been in a pause for more than a year. The city still has other live music venues such as Lyric Baltimore, Joseph Meyerhoff Symphony Hall, Baltimore Soundstage, The 8×10, and the recently-renovated CFG Bank Arena, which has focused mostly on concerts to fill its seats.

Tin Roof, a restaurant with a focus on live music, also closed at Power Plant Live! earlier this year.
