A men’s college basketball showcase is coming to Baltimore as the Charm City College Classic will take place Saturday, December 8th at Royal Farms Arena.

The event will feature a 4 pm game between the University of Maryland (2-0) and Loyola University Chicago  (1-1), which made a surprise appearance last year in the NCAA Tournament Final Four. Local teams Towson (1-1) and Morgan State (0-2) will play a game at 1:15pm.

“Playing at Royal Farms Arena will be a tremendous atmosphere for everyone involved and we are excited to be participating this year,” said Morgan State’s Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Edward Scott in a press release. “We expect to receive tremendous support from our fans in the Baltimore area and to be able to bring this game into their backyard is something we take great pride in.”

“Playing in the Royal Farms Arena is exciting and will elevate the exposure of this game,” said Towson Director of Athletics Tim Leonard in a press release. “This will be great for the community and we are thrilled to continue this rivalry with Morgan State on the basketball court.”

This is the fourth consecutive year that Maryland will play a basketball game at Royal Farms Arena. It was a yearly tradition in the 1990s, but Maryland did not play a game in Baltimore between 1999 and 2015.

Proceeds from the event will support Charm City Charities (CCC), a non-profit organization “dedicated to improving the lives of youth through academic support, athletic training, life skills development, physical and emotional wellness, and mentorship.” CCC is hoping to construct a complex with athletic fields and an academic and behavioral health/wellness center by 2023.
